KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Fans of the American League champion Kansas City Royals congregated at the Power and Light District for a World Series rally on Monday night in anticipation of game 1 on Tuesday.

Former players entertained hundreds of fans by signing autographs, showing off some dance moves and whipping the crowd into a World Series frenzy. Royals Hall of Famer Jeff Montgomery said he’s excited for an eager fan base.

“Having had the opportunity to play in Kansas City for a certain number of years, I certainly understand how important the fans are, how patient these fans have been, so to me this is almost like a reward to the fans for what they’ve lived through, what they’ve experienced and the patience they’ve shown and now to be in the World Series,” he said.

Another Royals legend hosted his own party on Monday night. 1985 World Series MVP Bret Saberhagen hosted a “Party like it’s 1985” bash at Johnny’s Tavern to benefit his “Make A Difference” foundation. Saberhagen said it’s a unique experience to go from being a player on the field to a fan in the stands as the Royals head into the World Series 29 years later.

“I didn’t get a chance to see the outside of it, and now I’m getting the chance to see the fans’ perspective and it’s unbelievable. It’s kind of like a dream come true. I’m a kid in a candy store again, I’m a big baseball fan, and really embracing the 2014 Royals,” Saberhagen said.
